In a recent Lok Sabha response, the Ministry of Women and Child Development outlined initiatives aimed at empowering women and children in Madhya Pradesh. These schemes, implemented over the past three years, focus on the economic, social, and health well-being of women, emphasising self-reliance and security.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Women and Child Development, has launched various schemes for the holistic development of women and children in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on improving quality of life, enhancing economic opportunities, and ensuring better health and safety.

Madhya Pradesh has succeeded in empowering women through education, healthcare, and economic independence. The state is the first in India to increase women’s reservation in government services from 33% to 35%. Additionally, 50% of the seats in panchayat and urban body elections are reserved for women. Through the Livelihood Mission, over 40 lakh women have found self-employment opportunities.
The Ladli Behna Yojana, launched by the state government, has provided direct financial support to nearly 1.29 crore women benefiting from monthly transfers. This program has become a model for other states, with Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh adopting similar initiatives.
Madhya Pradesh has improved the sex ratio and reduced child marriage, increasing the sex ratio from 927 to 956. Child marriage cases have declined significantly, thanks to the state’s proactive measures.

Madhya Pradesh has prioritized child and maternal health by strengthening its Anganwadi services. There are 97,330 Anganwadis statewide, including 2,452 in Bhind and 994 in Datia. These centers provide essential services like supplementary nutrition, immunization, and health checkups for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
