Ground Report | New Delhi: Russian soldier surrendered; A moving video appears to show a captured Russian soldier breaking down in tears over tea as Ukrainians call his mother to tell her he is fine.

The unverified video shows the dejected soldier after he apparently surrendered, surrounded by various people and cars. He is bundled up, drinking tea and munching on a cake as a woman holds a cell phone in an apparent video call with her mother.

“Compare the compassion here to the brutality of Putin,” said BuzzFeed correspondent Christopher Miller, who shared the viral clip on Twitter. The video circulated on the Telegram messaging app, Miller said.

An off-camera man can be heard saying in Ukrainian that the soldiers "don't know why they're here," according to a US Sun translation.

"These young people, it's not their fault," the man is heard saying in Ukrainian, according to the translation.

The soldier cries when he apparently confronts his mother on the video call. He doesn't say anything, but struggles to keep his composure as he eats and drinks, and ends up blowing his mother a kiss.

The video came amid reports that Russian soldiers are sabotaging their own vehicles and surrendering. Radio clips intercepted by a British intelligence firm reportedly captured some Russian troops crying and complaining about lack of supplies.

"From the way she's gulping down her tea and food, it looks like she hasn't eaten in days," one Twitter user said of the heartbreaking video.
