A young woman from Ladakh turned heads in India. Cricket is one of the most popular sports in India and cricket enthusiasts can always be found all over the country. Now a viral video from Ladakh shows a girl playing it masterfully.
The clip shows Maqsooma, a Class 6 student, batting like a pro. In the video, the girl interacts with the cameraman and says that her father has been teaching her cricket for a long time.
In the video, the girl can be seen playing cricket with her classmate batting and hitting shots like a pro. The girl, identified as Maqsooma, said she has been playing cricket from a very young age and is now being coached by her father.
“I really want to play cricket. My favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli, I want to be like him,” she Maqsooma said.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Union Territory of Ladakh decided to support the young cricketer after the video of her went viral on social media platforms.
Secretary for Youth and Sports Services and Department of Sports, Ravinder Kumar, announced that she would be sent a full game of cricket to Kaksar High School immediately.
“Cricket is a team sport and we need to educate students like Maqsooma and others to hone their individual skills and their ability to play as a team,” Kumar said.
The secretary said that efforts are being made to develop sports infrastructure in the mountainous region of Ladakh along with identifying such talent in different sports for further support and training.
