Ground Report | New Delhi: Varun Gandhi support of farmers; Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Pilibhit seat of Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, Varun Gandhi has tweeted an old speech of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In this speech, Vajpayee can be heard saying that if farmers are oppressed, they will not hesitate to join their agitation.

While tweeting the speech, Varun Gandhi has written - Wise words of a big-hearted leader. Significantly, Varun Gandhi is the only BJP MP to speak on the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

On October 10 too, he had said through a tweet that efforts are being made to make Lakhimpur Kheri violence Hindu vs Sikh. He had tweeted, "This effort is not only immoral and wrong narrative, but it is dangerous to beat again the wounds which have taken generations to heal. He and his mother Maneka Gandhi were dropped from the BJP's National Working Committee last week. Some people say that Varun Gandhi's recent statement could be behind this move of the party.

This morning Varun Gandhi tweeted an old video of Atal Vihari Bajpayee giving a speech on the issue of farmers. Vajpayee is saying in his speech, “I want to warn the government. Give up the methods of oppression. Don't try to scare. The farmer is not afraid. We do not want to use the farmers' movement for party politics. But we support the just demand of the farmers. And if the government represses, misuses the law, tries to suppress the peaceful movement, then we will not hesitate to jump into the farmers' struggle. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with them."
