UP Police files sedition case against those who raised 'pro-Pak slogans'

Ground Report | New Delhi: UP Police files sedition case; The Uttar Pradesh Police said on Friday that a sedition case has been filed against three people who raised pro-Pakistan slogans during the Eid Milad Un Nabi procession.

Officials said that these people were arrested on the basis of a video released on social media in which they were purportedly seen shouting slogans during the October 20 procession.

On Thursday, many right-wing activists staged a sit-in outside Sector 20 police station in Noida, demanding a sedition case against these people. After this, the police have filed a sedition case against Mohammad Zafar, Sameer Ali, and Ali Raza.

A senior police officer told news agency PTI, "Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code was earlier imposed on the accused. And section 124A (sedition) was imposed on Thursday." This officer also told that "at present, all the three accused are in judicial custody".

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also said on Thursday that a sedition case will be filed against those raising pro-Pakistan slogans in UP.

Kashmiri students booked under UAPA

Three Kashmiri students were arrested yesterday in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Those celebrating Pakistan’s victory will be charged with sedition, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office tweeted this morning.

All three are engineering students at Raja Balwant Singh College in Agra. Arshid Yusuf and Inayat Altaf Shaikh are in their third year of college, and Shaukat Ahmed Ganai is in his fourth.

Earlier, The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the medical students for celebrating the victory of Pakistan. In the India-Pakistan T20 match on Sunday, Pakistan defeated India by a huge margin of 10 wickets and some medical students rejoiced in this victory.

The case has been registered against the students of Government Medical College, Karan Nagar and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science, Shoura, Srinagar. Both these college students are accused of raising pro-Pakistan slogans during the T20 World Cup match on Sunday.

According to an FIR lodged at Soura Police Station (under FIR No. 104/2021), “during the intervening night of 24 and 25 October 2021 when Pakistan won a one-day cricket match, the students of SKIMS, who were pursuing MBBS and other medical degrees, were unmarried. Hostel Soura raised slogans and burst crackers.

The ruckus broke out when Home Minister Amit Shah was on his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.

Rajasthan teacher arrested

However, An FIR has been lodged against a Udaipur teacher after being expelled from her job for expressing happiness over Pakistan’s victory in the T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan on Sunday. On the other hand, in another similar case, two youths in Jodhpur have been arrested by the police after the FIR was registered.

A private school teacher in Udaipur wrote on WhatsApp status with a picture of the Pakistani player, ‘Jeet Gaye we won’. The father of a student of the school saw this status of the teacher. She messaged the teacher and asked, do you support Pakistan? To this, the teacher replied- Yes! (UP Police files sedition case)

The letter issued from the school reads, “Neerja Modi School teacher Nafisa Attari has been expelled from the school with immediate effect as per the decision of the meeting of Sojatia Charitable Trust.” In this matter, the school’s director Mahendra Sojatia, “I got information about this from social media. Modi school does not tolerate such things at all.”

Udaipur’s Ambamata police station officer Dalpat Singh Rathod said, “An FIR has been registered in this matter only on Tuesday. FIR has been registered on the complaint of some organisations. We are investigating the matter.” “An FIR has been registered under section 153 (b) of IPC for inciting religious sentiments. No arrest has been made yet.”
