  • A total of 13,32,207 cancer cases were registered in the country from 2012 to 2019 under the National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Of these, 6,10,084 cases were analyzed.
  • More in men
  • Out of these 6,10,084 cases, 3,19,098 (52.4%) cases were found in males and 2,90,986 (47.6%) cases in females.
  • Certain cancers are more common in women
  • Cases of thyroid cancer (1 percent in men vs. 2.5 percent of women) and gall bladder cancer (2.2 percent of men vs. 3.7 percent of women) were found to be higher in women.

  • Gynecological cancers account for more than half of the total cancer cases in women. These include breast cancer.
  • head and neck cancer
  • About a third (31.2 percent) of the total cancer cases in men were found in the head and neck region.

tobacco big reason

  • Tobacco was found to be a major cause of cancer. Of the total cancer cases in men, 48.7 percent cases were found to be related to tobacco use. In women, this ratio was found to be 16.5 percent.

  • Most cancer cases were found among people between the ages of 45 and 64. More cases of prostate cancer than just men were found in men over the age of 65.
