Twitter temporarily blocked account of IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Ground Report | New Delhi: Twitter temporarily blocked; Twitter blocked the account of IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad amid a conflict with the central government over new rules for social media. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad himself has given this information. Prasad said that he was not able to access his account for the past one hour. 

He said that upon attempting access, it was reported that his account violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of America. However, the account was restored after an hour. Regarding blocking his account, the communication minister said that the social media company has violated Rule 4 (8) of the IT Rules.

He said that he failed to provide any information before blocking my Twitter account and it is a violation of the rules. Ravi Shankar Prasad himself has shared a screenshot of the account being blocked and then after getting access. Even after the account is operational, Ravi Shankar Prasad has been warned by Twitter that if any further notice is received against his account in the future, then his account may be blocked again or suspended.

Recently Union Law, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has asked many questions amidst the confrontation with Twitter. Ravi Shankar Prasad has targeted and said Twitter has failed to follow the Intermediary Guidelines issued by the Government of India on 26 May.

Ravi Shankar Prasad has written in his tweet, “Twitter has failed to follow the Intermediary Guidelines issued by the Government of India on 26 May. Twitter was given many opportunities to follow our rules but it deliberately chose the path of not obeying.

“Twitter calls itself the flag bearer of freedom of expression but is deliberately ignoring the guidelines when it comes to guidelines. Apart from this, Twitter is refusing to obey the law and order of India and is also ignoring the complaints of users. Along with this, Twitter puts a post in the category of manipulated media according to its convenience and likes and dislikes.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “What happened in Uttar Pradesh clearly showed the arbitrariness of Twitter in stopping fake news. Twitter seems very enthusiastic about verifying facts but its negligence in many cases including in Uttar Pradesh is disturbing (Twitter temporarily blocked).

The Law Minister said, “The companies of India, whether it is of pharma or IT sector, if they go to do business in America or any other country, then they follow the rules and regulations there. When India made a rule to give voice to the persecuted, Twitter is showing reluctance to follow it.
