Twitter removed Naidu's blue tick, then returned it

Ground Report | New Delhi: The 'blue tick' is once again appearing on the personal Twitter handle of the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu. The blue tick was removed from Naidu's personal account on Saturday morning, after which the matter started trending on social media.

A 'blue tick' signifies a verified Twitter account on the micro-blogging website Twitter platform. After the removal of the blue tick, it was believed that Twitter has taken some action during the ongoing dispute between the Government of India and Twitter over IT laws for the last few days.

A Twitter spokesperson said that "M Venkaiah Naidu's personal Twitter handle was inactive since July 2020, due to which the blue tick was removed automatically. It is Twitter's policy that if an account is not active for a long time, then the company removes the blue tick from that handle. The company has told that the blue tick has returned on the personal handle of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

According to the American company Twitter, a blue tick is given to a user's account to show that this account is verified so that people can build trust about it. It has been seen that there is a competition among users to get blue tick on Twitter account and people have to wait a long time for it.

What is Twitter's Badge Removal Policy?

Twitter gives a blue badge to prove the authenticity of the account. According to Twitter, for this, your account must be active, authentic, and well-known.

According to Twitter's policy, the company removes the blue verified badge and verified status in the following situations:

  • Changing username without notice
  • Due to non-active account
  • Due to not being in the old position of the person concerned (for which Twitter verified the account)
  • Blue ticks can be removed even if you consistently violate Twitter's user policy
