Ground Report | New Delhi: Twitter intermediary status: Social media platform Twitter is the only social media platform that has not complied with the new IT regulations brought by the Government of India, News agency ANI quoted a government source as saying, Twitter will lose its status as an intermediary platform in India as it does not comply with the new guidelines. It is the only platform in the mainstream social media platform that has not complied with the new laws.

What does it mean to lose arbitrator status?

According to ANI, after losing its moderator status, Twitter will now be considered a publisher of user content instead of a hosting platform and will be responsible for every post posted on its platform. This means that if a user's post is found to be against the law, then for this, cases and action can be taken on Twitter under sections of the IT Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Government sources said that Twitter has lost the status of the intermediary platform in India due to non-compliance with the new IT rules. Rather than being considered only one platform hosting content from multiple users, Twitter will be directly editorially responsible for posts published on its platform.

The government source further said Twitter will lose its status as an intermediary platform in India as it does not comply with the new guidelines. It is the only platform in the mainstream social media platform that has not complied with the new laws.

Twitter is going to have difficulties in operating in India now. In February, new rules for Internet media were issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Internet media platforms were given three months to comply with these rules, which ended on May 25.

Twitter is continuously refusing to accept the new rules

It is worth noting that even after the notice of the central government, Twitter is continuously refusing to accept the new rules. A notice has been issued to Twitter by the government even before this. Twitter has been asked to comply with the new IT rules.
