Sanya Raghwa | On Monday, Twitter changed its icon from the blue bird to a dog. The doge can be seen replacing the blue bird which was used as the Twitter’s icon for a very long time.
The loading page of Twitter is flooded with a number of doge memes. People don’t know the exact reason behind Elon Musk changing the logo. Many speculations have been made on Twitter that the change in the icon is an April Fool’s Day gag from the company’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk.
Twitter’s blue bird is now replaced by the Shiba Inu dog meme, that is the logo of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. This changed icon of the doge is only visible on the web version of Twitter and not the application itself.
Since Twitter does not have the capacity to push changes faster the change came a little later from April Fool’s day. Speculations have been made that the Twitter website is facing some issue after the icon was changed; you can’t see who retweeted your tweet.
This change in the icon came into notice on Tuesday when Twitter’s homepage icon changed from classic blue bird logo to the cartoonish Shibha Inu dog named Kabosu who inspired the “doge” meme. After changing the logo, Musk tweeted about the change through a meme and also shared screenshots of an old Twitter conversation in which a Twitter user had asked him to buy the social media platform and then change its logo to a ‘doge’.
After the change in the logo, the Twitter users flooded the homepage with hilarious memes-
It is interesting to observe that this change in the logo comes just a few days after Musk filed a petition in court for the dismissal of a 258-billion-dollar lawsuit filed against him by Dogecoin investors for allegedly promoting Dogecoin in an illegal pyramid scheme style.
According to a report by Market Watch, In February 2021, Musk posted a series of tweets in support of Dogecoin, after which the cryptocurrency’s price was raised up to 44 per cent.
“A similar effect of Musk’s endorsement appeared on Monday as well when the Investor’s Business Daily reported that Dogecoin’s value spiked by 36 percent after Twitter’s logo change. On Tuesday morning, the official Twitter account of Dogecoin shared the now-iconic photo of the dog behind the Doge meme and wrote, “The dog behind the #Doge meme and #Dogecoin cryptocurrency is named Kabosu and she still lives with her owner Atsuko Sato”.
