Tribal school facing threat of wild animal attacks in Kerala

Ground Report | New Delhi: Tribal school in Kerala; Students studying in a tribal school in at Thalathoothakaavu district remain miserable due to the threat of wild animals. Reports said that students faced the threat of wild animals, including bison, elephants, and wild boars for many years.

According to the report of Times of India, "wild elephants destroyed the trees which are very close to the school building. Around 28 tribal students from eleven tribal settlement areas are studying here".

Tribal school in Kerala

The herd of elephants was spotted on Wednesday by Mahesh and Suresh, members of the PTA committee, who live near the school. He saw elephants near the school in the morning. The swarm has destroyed most of the trees on the campus.

“The elephant has destroyed coconut trees in the premises. It is certain that the flock will come again for the coconut. We are trying to build a compound wall around the school, but the forest range office has rejected our request. We are planning to talk to the Palode range office officials again, if they are not ready to give permission, we will definitely hold a protest in front of the office,” said Jain P, a teacher at Thalathoothakaavu tribal school.

The tribal population in India does not represent a homogeneous group. This means that the effects of the pandemic and the lockdown on the livelihoods of the tribal people in the country also varied from region to region and business to business. (Tribal school in Kerala)
