Jammu Kashmir police said on Saturday that 29 foreign militants are active in South Kashmir, but the security forces have enough experience to deal with them and wipe out terrorism from all over South Kashmir. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said, ‘There is presence of foreign terrorists in the upper reaches of Kokernag, Tral and Khriu. There are about 29 foreign terrorists active in South Kashmir and when they come down and our sources inform us (about them) then we will kill them.
He told reporters after the tribute ceremony of the martyred CRPF jawan in the terror attack in Bijbihara of Anantnag district that the security forces have enough experience to deal with these foreign militants and wipe out terrorism from all over South Kashmir. When asked if foreign militants are a big challenge from local militants then they said that both are challenges. Whether foreign terrorists or locals are a challenge. Although foreign militants are more trained. Our security forces especially the personnel of SOG are well trained and have been doing this work for the last 25 years. We have gained expertise in dealing with them. The importance is of accurate information and once we get it, we will eliminate them.
The IG said that the number of militants in South Kashmir is higher than in North Kashmir but the security forces have started anti-terrorism operations in North Kashmir as well. Dealing with terrorist remaining in the south is a priority. On the recent incidents related to terrorism in North Kashmir and the possibility of terrorists becoming stronger there, the Inspector General of Police said that there is no such thing. There is a perception that terrorists are stronger in the north because we suffered a lot in the first week of May. There are lesser number of terrorists in North Kashmir but we will kill them soon.
Hizbul wiped out huge success
Security forces have earned huge success by wiping out Hizbul Mujahideen from Tral area of South Kashmir’sPulwama district. The objective is to end terrorism from all over South Kashmir. He said that Tral has been known as the center of terrorists since 1989 along with Sopore and Shopian. Tral is an inaccessible terrain and there have always been terrorists. Hizbul, being an old organization, harbors every organization.
Eliminating Hizbul from the Tral region is a matter of great success for the security forces. Our effort will be to eliminate terrorism from all over South Kashmir. When the officer was asked whether the security forces were killing Hizbul militants selectively, the IG said that the forces do not act on the terrorists in a selective manner. When we get information, we start the operation and we kill whoever is the militants.
After death of Burhan Wani locals joins militancy
Jammu and Kashmir police believed that the Kashmiri youth turned towards militancy only after the death of Burhan Wani, famous as the militant commander and poster boy of the Hizbul Mujahideen on 8 July 2016.
The official figure tells that after the death of Burhan Wani, more than 390 youths joined the militancy. It also proves that the involvement of local militants who died after Burhan’s death ranged from three days to 60 days.
This sequence has not stopped. All attempts to stop it are failing. The security officers are unable to do anything except just convince the parents. There is no lice crawling on the ears of the stones. It was so important that Kashmiris used to allege that Kashmiri youth are being forced to carry guns due to alleged atrocities by security forces.
The increasing attraction of local youth towards militancy had already become a matter of concern for the security forces and now their troubles have increased further after the information came out that the local youth are not crossing the border for training.
They are being trained within Kashmir by the old militants. They are first being tasked to snatch the weapons of the policemen. Authorities have admitted that in most incidents of snatching of weapons from policemen, the hand of the local youth has been found. They are also doing this because due to the tightening of borders, the consignment of arms has almost stopped.
