Ground Report | New Delhi: TikTok may return to India; China-owned short video app TikTok may re-enter India, after being banned. In July this year, the parent company of TikTok ByteDance applied for a new trademark for TikTok.
TikTok May return to India
Tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted, “TikTok (or TickTock) is indeed returning to India. That said, the supposed comeback might get delayed for a while.”
The short video app was one of the first batches of 59 Chinese apps in India that was banned by the central government over national security. The initial 59 apps which included popular platforms such as Sheen, SHAREit, ES File Explorer, and others were blocked under the provisions of section 69 of the IT Act and IT Rules 2008, which says, “In view of the available information, they are engaged. activities that

Notably, months after TikTok was banned in India, the government banned the highly popular mobile game PUBG Mobile. Blocked, which recently returned as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).
As of now, all developments are in the early stages, and ByteDance will need to figure out how to address the allegations on security due to ties with China. For perspective, PUBG's South Korean developer Crafton has reiterated several times that the company did not maintain any ties with China-based Tencent for the return and development of Battlegrounds Mobile in India.

Apart from India, the app has also been banned in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Indonesia has announced the ban but removed it after a week. While the Trump administration in the US signed orders to remove the platform from the App Store, the new Biden-led government has rescinded the ban.
