Three militants were killed and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured in an encounter that broke out in Nagrota. Militants opened fire on the CRPF camp in the wee hours of Friday on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said that three to four terrorists were riding in a truck and heading towards the Kashmir Valley. He was stopped by CRPF's Naka party near toll after which they opened fire.

He said that one terrorist was killed instantly while others took advantage of the darkness and escaped into the forest. Security forces carried out extensive search operations t and gunned them down. A large quantity of ammunition and weapons have also been recovered from them. He told that a terrorist is still hiding in the forest. His search is on.

The DGP said that these terrorists are members of the new infiltrator group and were heading towards Srinagar. They expressed doubts that the militants would have infiltrated through the Kathua, Hiranagar border.

Earlier, a senior officer of the Central Reserve Police Force had said that a terrorist was killed by security forces. He told that Mohammad Maqbool Wani, the driver of the truck in which the terrorists came riding, has been arrested. He is a resident of Anantnag.

The official said a group of two to three militants fired four rounds on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Ban Toll of Nagrota.

This is the second-largest attack in Nagrota after the Sunjuwan attack of 2018.
