CN Annadurai

Annadurai was the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Apart from being a politician, he was also a famous Tamil writer. He wrote many plays, some of which were later made into films. It is believed that Annadurai was the first Dravidian leader who used Tamil cinema for political propaganda.

MG Ramachandran

Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, has been a very popular face of the Tamil film industry. MGR took over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for ten consecutive years between 1977 and 1987.

Janaki Ramachandran

Popularly known as VN Janaki in the Tamil film industry, actress Janaki Ramachandran worked for 23 days as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. After the death of her husband and Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, she became the Chief Minister on 23 January 1988 and her government fell on 30 January.

NT Rama Rao

NT Rama Rao, founder of Telugu Desam Party, known as Anna and NTR in Andhra Pradesh, was active in films before entering politics. He worked as a chief minister for seven years and in films he also worked as an actor and director.

Jairam Jayalalithaa

Jayalalithaa, popularly known as Amma, was also very active in Tamil films before entering politics. Jayalalithaa also worked in Hindi films. From 1991 to 2016, Jayalalithaa took over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on six occasions. He died in December 2016.

M Karunanidhi

M Karunanidhi, the leader of the opposition party in Tamil Nadu, became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 1969. Till now he has been the Chief Minister of the state five times. Karunanidhi was associated with films as a screenwriter and also wrote a lot of books on the Tamil film world.
