Ground Report | New Delhi: The holy and sacred river, the Ganges River, has been filled with corpses in recent days. Hundreds of bodies were found floating in the river or buried in the sand on the banks. Those living nearby fear that the corpses are Covid-19 victims.

India has been overwhelmed by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic which has continued to propagate in recent weeks.

India has recorded more than 25 million cases and 275,000 deaths. Experts say the numbers are actually higher.

Speaking with reporters and eyewitnesses, it turns out that the horrors in Uttar Pradesh were first exposed on May 10 when 71 bodies were stranded by a river in the village of Chausa Bihar, near the state border.

Neeraj Kumar Singh, superintendent of the Buxar police, where Chausa is located, said that an autopsy was carried out on most of the decomposed bodies, DNA samples were taken and bodies were buried in a hole near the river bank.

Six miles (10 km) from Chausa, dozens of severely decomposed bodies were found strewn by a river in the village of Gahmar in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, with wild dogs and crows feasting on it.

Purohit Vijay Sharma, who performed the last rites in Unnao, says, "In the last one month in Unnao and Fatehpur districts, a large number of people have died due to diseases like fever and breathlessness. When the last ghats built on the banks of the Ganga were cremated As it took more time for the cremation, the bodies from Rae Bareli, Fatehpur and Unnao were suppressed in the Ganges Cay, a short distance from Buxar Ghat in Unnao. Here 10-12 bodies were cremated every day before, but for now More than a hundred dead bodies are being cremated every day. "

It is not clear who the bodies are buried, that is, they died due to corona infection or because of some other reason.

According to the local people, people come to these ghats from nearby villages only, but now it is very difficult to identify the dead bodies.

Officials of Unnao and Fatehpur districts reached the spot on Wednesday evening after the information of dead bodies buried in the sand.

At present, the machines were sanded and the shrouds have been removed from there. The administration has prepared teams for monitoring so that people can no longer bury the dead bodies in this way.

Dinkar Sahu, a resident of Shuklaganj, says that this has been happening for many days, but people could not find out.

Dinkar Sahu explains the reason, "Poor people have started burying the dead bodies due to the crowds and expensive wood found at the cremation ghats. Though this is not usually the case. But those who have done so have done it in compulsion Will happen."

Although Unnao District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar says that there is a tradition in the surrounding villages that people bury the dead bodies, yet we are investigating it.
