BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said, "Due to the corona epidemic, we can organize the T20 World Cup in the UAE. We are closely monitoring the situation."

The first round of the T20 World Cup will be divided into two groups and will be held in UAE and Oman. Eight teams will participate in Round 1 namely Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea.12 matches will be played between these teams, of which four (the top two from each group) will qualify for the Super 12s.

At the same time, the top eight teams based on the ranking will be directly eligible to participate in the World Cup. The Super 12s phase will begin on October 24, with 30 matches to be played. The Super 12s will see teams of six each divided into two groups, with matches, played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah in the UAE. The tournament will finally conclude after the playoff matches.

The remaining season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will be played in the UAE from September 19, while its final match will be played on October 15. An official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave this information to ANI. Like last time, this time the league matches will be played on the grounds of Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. The T20 World Cup will start right after the league is organized.

In the last 24 hours, 48,698 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported in India and 1,183 patients died. Corona cases have been declining in the country for the past several weeks and the situation is getting better but health experts have predicted that India will face the third wave in the next few months. In such a situation, the World Cup has been shifted out of India.
