Supreme Court on Kanwar Yatra; Nothing is greater than the right to live

Ground Report | New Delhi: Supreme Court on Kanwar Yatra; The Central Government today filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the Kanwar Yatra, in which it has said that in view of the danger of Corona, Kanwariyas should not be allowed to go to Haridwar.

However, at the same time, the Center gave one more suggestion and said - "Keeping in mind the religious sentiments, the state governments should provide 'Ganga Jal' through tankers." The Center said- "Tankers should be available at identified/determined places so that nearby devotee can collect 'Ganga Jal' and perform 'Abhishek' in their nearest Shiva temples. During this time the state governments should ensure that the corona rules be followed."

The Supreme Court, in its remarks, while hearing, said that there is nothing greater than the right to life and all kinds of feelings come only after the right given in Article 21 of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court had recently issued a notice on the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government to allow the Kanwar Yatra amid the Corona epidemic, asking it to reply which it has to give by Monday. He had also summoned the Center as well. The Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognizance of this matter recently. A bench headed by Justice Rohinton F Nariman had said that the matter would be heard on Friday, July 16.

The Yogi Adityanath government on Tuesday, following the Covid guidelines, gave permission to take out the Kanwar Yatra in the state from July 25. A few hours later, the Uttarakhand government canceled the Kanwar Yatra this year also keeping in mind the possibility of a third wave of the corona.

This year, the Uttarakhand government had to face severe criticism for its decision to continue the Maha Kumbh, after which the second wave of Corona created an outcry in many states of the country.
