Strong opposition in Rajya Sabha over rising price of petrol and diesel

The second phase of the budget session of Parliament has started with an uproar on Monday. Opposition parties have demanded a discussion on the rising price of petrol and diesel in the House, but Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu has denied it.

The proceedings of Rajya Sabha have been postponed till 1 pm for the second consecutive time.

Earlier, the proceedings were adjourned till 11 pm and when the proceedings of the house started again, the opposition was adamant about the demand for discussion on the rising price of petrol and diesel and inflation.

Congress MPs including Mallikarjun Kharge raised slogans against the rising oil prices in the House.

Leader of the Opposition, Kharge, citing the increased oil prices, said, “Petrol and diesel prices have reached almost Rs 100 per liter and Rs 80 per liter. LPG prices have also increased."

He alleged that 21 lakh crore rupees have been collected from across the nation through excise duty / cess and farmers are also included in this and everyone is suffering.

After his statement, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Chairman of the Upper House, said, "I do not want to take any drastic step on the first day."

After 11 o'clock when the proceedings of the house started again, the opposition once again created a ruckus for discussion.

On this, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh said, "You know that what the Chairman has said will not change." This cannot be discussed today.

After this, the proceedings were adjourned till one o'clock.

Oil prices have continued to rise since last month, which the opposition is opposing. Petrol prices have reached Rs 100 per liter in many cities of the country.

On Monday, the price of petrol was Rs 91.17 per liter in Delhi, Rs 89.38 per liter in Noida and Rs 97.57 per liter in Mumbai.
