Ground Report | New Delhi: Story of Ishan Kishan; Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has become the second most expensive Indian player in the history of the Indian Premier League (fourth overall) after he was bought by five-time champions Mumbai Indians on the first day of the mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. Kishan was bought by MI for Rs 15.25 crore, which makes him the second most expensive Indian cricketer to have been bought in the IPL auction after the legendary Yuvraj Singh.

While the most expensive player was sold was Ishan Kishan. He is India’s wicketkeeper-batter. In this auction, Mumbai Indian break the record of the highly expensive player to get him for Rs. 15.25 crore.

Ishan Pranav Kumar Pandey Kishan, is 23 years old, from Patna, Bihar. Ishan’s brother Raj Kishan, supported him in pursuing cricket as a career. He started playing in Jharkhand domestic cricket while the issue of registration from Bihar. His friends and senior player told him to play with the neighbouring state.

Ishan Kishan led India at the Under-19 World Cup in 2016 in Bangladesh, where his team finished runners-up to West Indies. After, He was first noticed when he struck a 69-ball 87, studded with eight sixes, on a rank Rajkot turner in a Ranji Trophy clash against Saurashtra in October 2015.

As a child, Ishaan was not just interested in academics. All-day he used to build a cricket field with the image of the crowd chanting "Ishaan Ishaan" in his books! Since he was a mischievous child, Ishaan's parents were filled with complaints.

While playing cricket in his building, he used to hide by hitting the ball at the doors of other houses. Half the building was complaining to Ishaan's mother at his house. He wanted to get his ears pierced in the sixth grade and his school was clearly against it. So, he put it on his dead grandfather that it was his last wish! And, guess what…his grandfather is still alive!

Rahul Dravid has had a huge influence on him too as the ex- U-19 coach. Ishan says: “He is a superb coach; he comes and talks to me and the thing about him is that his words change your mind. When you feel the pressure, you can always go and talk to him and right away you feel like you can just go out there and do your job, which is to win matches for India”.

Ishan Kishan made his IPL debut in 2016 as a part of the Gujarat Lions team and he retained him for the 2017 season as well. During the 2018 auction, his father was so worried that his BP rose and he had to be taken to the hospital. Once he came to know that he had been selected by MI for a decent sum of money, he threw the BP machine and celebrated.

His attacking approach to batting had him picked by Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL auction for INR 35 lakh at the age of 17. Kishan had joined Mumbai Indians in 2018 after the franchise bought him for Rs 6.2 crore. Now, Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian player after the Yuvraj Singh rs. 16 crore in 2015.

In this auction, Punjab Kings also bid on the Ishan Kishan while Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the party. But Mumbai Indian doesn’t want to lose Ishan Kishan and they bought him into.15.25 crore.
