Indore district has won the first prize in the Western Zone in the 5th National Water Awards ceremony held in Delhi for various works being done for water conservation in the country.
President Droupadi Murmu awarded Indore district the first prize in the Best District category in the Western Zone. Indore Collector Ashish Singh, Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, and Zila Panchayat CEO Siddharth Jain were felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu at the function.

In Indore, which is facing a shortage of water, a campaign was being run to save water for the last few years. In Indore, during the summer, the municipal corporation and the district administration had installed rooftop water harvesting systems at home, the number of which had reached about 1 lakh. It was a result oriented effort to improve the groundwater situation in any city. Indore has been awarded the first prize of the Western Zone in the fifth National Water Awards ceremony on Tuesday.
Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil on Monday announced the list of winners of the 5th National Water Awards. The first prize in the category of best state has been given to Odisha. Uttar Pradesh secured the second position, and Gujarat and Puducherry shared the third position.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced 38 winners, including joint winners in 9 categories, for the 5th National Water Awards, 2023. These include Best State, Best District, Best Gram Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best School or College, Best Industry, Best Water User Association, Best Institution (other than school or college), and Best Civil Society. A total of 686 applications were received. The applications were examined and evaluated by a jury committee.
