IMD Forecasts rain and thunderstorms across various regions

The Meteorological Department has issued forecasts for rain and thunderstorms across several parts of India in the coming days. According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance continues to form a trough in the westerly winds at mid-levels, while cyclonic circulations are present over western Uttar Pradesh and the lower levels of southern Rajasthan.

In light of these meteorological activities, rain and thundershowers are predicted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on May 13 and 14. Rainfall ranging from 5.6 mm to 64.4 mm is expected during this period.

Similarly, Rajasthan is expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds from May 13 to 16, with rainfall ranging from 5.6 mm to 64.4 mm. Additionally, dust storms are likely in different parts of Eastern Rajasthan and Eastern Uttar Pradesh on May 13.

The Meteorological Department has also forecast strong surface winds at speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour in the plains of Uttar Pradesh and South Rajasthan over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, other regions of the country, including Vidarbha, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat, are expected to witness light to moderate rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

Moreover, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are anticipated to experience strong surface winds at rates of 40 to 60 km per hour over the next five days. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some parts of Madhya Pradesh on May 13 and 14, as well as in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada on May 13.

Additionally, heavy rains ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm are expected in various areas of Odisha, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe. Rain and lightning are also likely in South India and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Due to fluctuations in temperature caused by rain and strong winds, a drop in temperature is anticipated in many parts of the country, providing relief from heatwave conditions. However, some regions may still experience temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, maximum temperatures reached between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius in several parts of West Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha. Similarly, Hoshangabad in West Madhya Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, individuals in Saurashtra and Kutch may face hot and humid weather today, while rain and thunderstorms were observed in various parts of India on May 12, including Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and others.

Furthermore, significant rainfall, ranging from 1 to 3 cm, was recorded in various regions on May 12, including Daringbadi in Odisha, Pahalgam, Kukarnag, and Qazigund in Jammu, Gulmarg, Kupwara, and Bhaderwah, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Purnia in Bihar, Wardha in Vidarbha, Chitradurga in South Interior Karnataka, Amaravati in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam.
