Sikh organization accused media of working for militants

Ground Report | Srinagar: Sikh organization accused media of working for militants; Journalists belonging to regional and national media were today accused of working for militant organizations and misbehaved by a Sikh body at the Gurdwara in Baghat where they had gone to cover their press conference.

Media personnel boycotted the press conference after allegations and counter-allegations. News Agency KDC reported that, journalists present at the spot said that some Sikh members at the gurdwara tried to scuffle with them before the press conference.

The leaders of the Sikh community were to hold a press conference at Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga Sahib, Baghat Barzulla at 11 am today. The organizers had requested the media personnel to cover the presser. An invitation to the media was given by Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee Budgam President Santpal Singh, who had invited the media yesterday to cover the press conference on the controversy over inter-religious marriages at the Gurdwara of Baghat Barzulla.

A senior journalist working for a national media channel said that some Sikh leaders misbehaved with her and accused her of "working for the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist organisation". (Sikh organization accused media)

Another journalist asked the KDC for security that while covering press conferences on the sensitive issue of alleged conversions and forced marriages of Sikh girls, journalists should avoid going inside religious places and places chosen by the aggrieved parties. There is every possibility of some untoward incident. All press conferences on this issue should be held at neutral places.

Earlier Sikh community alleges that two girls were kidnapped and then forcibly converted. After which both were married. The members of the Sikh community alleged that the girls who were forcibly married were much older in age and one of them was already married.

The woman also reportedly said in her video that the police caught her and handed her over to her family. While she kept telling the police that she was living with the husband of her own will. The woman further said that she also showed the papers to the police, but to no avail. When the police handed him over to his family, he was taken to Punjab. The woman alleges that many organizations in Punjab pressured her to make statements against her husband.
