In this resignation letter addressed to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, he wrote, “A person’s conscience collapses by making compromises. I can never compromise on the agenda of the future of Punjab and the welfare of the people of Punjab. That’s why I I resign from the post of President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve Congress.”
Earlier, Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat had said that the upcoming elections to the state assembly would be fought under the leadership of Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Meanwhile, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is coming to Delhi for the first time after resigning on 18 September.
On Sidhu’s resignation, the Captain said without naming him that he had already been saying that Sidhu was not fit for the post.
Amarinder Singh, reacting to Sidhu’s resignation, said, “I told no… this person is not balanced and is not good for a border state like Punjab.”
Earlier, there was a lot of tension between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Captain Amarinder.
After the resignation of the Captain, there was a lot of drama about the announcement of the new Chief Minister of Punjab. Sometimes Sunil Jakhar’s name came and sometimes Sukhjinder Randhawa’s name came in the media. Charanjit Singh Channi was finally made the Chief Minister of Punjab.
