Siddique Kappan to be shifted to hospital in Delhi for treatment, Supreme Court directs UP govt

The Supreme Court has ordered Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan to be sent to Delhi for better treatment. Siddique Kappan Corona is infected. 

The court also says that if cured, he will be sent back to Mathura jail. Chief Justice NV Ramanna has said in his order that keeping in view the facts of this case, we are disposing of the petition.

Although Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has opposed this, we are ordering the state of Uttar Pradesh to take the accused to either Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital or AIIMS for treatment.

Siddique Kappan was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police on October 5, 2020 when he was going to cover the case of 'gang rape' and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras.

 Kappan and his three associates were charged under the UAPA and the Uttar Pradesh Police accused them of having links with the extremist Islamic organization Popular Front of India.

Earlier the wife of Siddique Kappan, said that his condition is serious and demanded that the Chief Minister should intervene. 

The wife alleges that Siddique Kappan, who is suffering from covid, is in critical condition and is not receiving treatment. His wife, Raihanath, alleged that He is being kept chained to his bed and would not even allow him to go to the bathroom.

Siddique Kappan’s wife has alleged that this has been his condition for the past three months. 

She said he fell out of bed yesterday morning and broke his leg. It is alleged that the infected Kappan was not even allowed to go to the toilet and urinate in a bottle.

Recently, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said in a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that Kappan's health is very serious. 

Vijayan requested Adityanath to intervene in the matter so that Kappan could be treated in a humane manner. Vijayan has also written that transfer of Kappan to a super specialty hospital should also be considered seriously where his life can be saved.
