Siddique Kappan chained to bed: Kerala CM letter to Yogi Adityanath

The wife of Siddique Kappan, a Malayalee journalist arrested by the UP police and is in jail, said that his condition is serious and demanded that the Chief Minister should intervene. 

The wife alleges that Siddique Kappan, who is suffering from covid, is in critical condition and is not receiving treatment. His wife, Raihanath, alleged that He is being kept chained to his bed and would not even allow him to go to the bathroom.

Siddique Kappan's wife has alleged that this has been his condition for the past three months.

She said he fell out of bed yesterday morning and broke his leg. It is alleged that the infected Kappan was not even allowed to go to the toilet and urinate in a bottle. 

Siddique Kappan is currently undergoing treatment at the KM Memorial Hospital in Madurai following the confirmation of covid-19. However, Raihanath said that his health was deteriorating day by day and that Siddique Kappan should be removed from the hospital.

Siddique Kappan was arrested by UP police while on his way to visit the house of a girl from Hathras who was brutally raped and killed in UP. 

Siddiqui is facing charges of treason, inciting communal hatred and fundraising for terrorism.

Meanwhile, the family has approached the court seeking that Siddique Kappan, who is suffering from COVID-19, is in poor health and should be shifted to another hospital.

However Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath, requesting him to ensure better medical treatment to journalist Siddique Kappan.

"It has been brought to my attention by the Kerala Union of Working Journalist and some of the prominent media persons of national repute that Siddique Kappan, a journalist from Kerala presently in custody under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh is facing severe health problems," wrote Vijayan in his letter to Adityanath.

"I request your goodself to intervene in the matter so that humane treatment is accorded to Kappan.
