Shah Faesal to assist LG Manoj Sinha

Former IAS officer Shah Faesal is likely to be appointed as advisor to Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha. He will advise the Lieutenant Governor and the administration on local matters. Last year he quit politics. He was kept in detention after removal of Article 370 from the valley.

Faesal’s appointment, which is likely to be announced soon, has come at a time when civilian killings have seen a sharp rise in the Valley. Seven civilians, including four from minority communities, have been killed by militants in five days in Kashmir.

Who is Shah Faesal?

In politics everything is possible. Shah Faisal is known for his excellence and for his connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He topped the IAS exam in 2009 then he had resigned from civil services in January 2019. He wanted to give political options to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, so he floated a political party named Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM). He emerged as a youth icon in the valley. He was kept in detention after the removal of article 370. His political dream thrashed so he quit politics.

When he realised that he is wasting time

To Indian Express Faesal said detention proved to be an “immense learning phase”. “I realised that at the end of the day you are all alone. It’s your family that suffers the most while ironically those for whom you seem to be standing up are drawing a sadistic pleasure out of your misery. Detention gave me the clarity of mind that I belong somewhere else. That I can’t destroy my life for those who won’t even cry for me,” he said.

When he Praised PM Narendra Modi

Recently he praised PM Narendra modi on Vaccination program he said, This is more than just a vaccination program. It’s good governance + human capital formation + nation building + India assuming global leadership as a Jagat Guru”.

After his release from detention, Faesal has avoided issuing any political statements. However, his tweet praising the Prime Minister has created a buzz in J&K as well as outside, with many social media users questioning him over his choice of tweets.

Interestingly, Faesal’s appointment, which is likely to be announced soon, has come at a time when civilian killings have seen a sharp rise in the Valley. Seven civilians, including four from minority communities, have been killed by militants in five days in Kashmir.

Shah Faesal, who topped the IAS exam in 2009, was hailed as a youth icon for those in the Valley. He had resigned from the Indian Civil services in January 2019 and floated a new political party in Jammu and Kashmir that same year in August. But he abruptly quit politics last year amid speculation that he may return to government service. Even though his political venture went into cold storage, Faesal has a deep connection with the people in the Valley, and, sources say, him being roped in for a state role, will help the Centre make communication inroads with the youth in J&K.
