Ground Report | New Delhi: S Jaishankar did not meet Taliban leader; In his weekly media briefing, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi has denied media reports that Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has met a Taliban leader recently.

He was asked whether S Jaishankar had stayed in Doha for some time during a visit and had he spoken to Taliban leaders during this time.

Arindam Bagchi said that such news had come in the media regarding a tweet by a journalist that the Foreign Minister had met the Taliban leader, but this is completely fake news. "Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has not met any Taliban leader," he said.

Regarding the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan and the increasing Taliban attacks there, he said that the government is concerned about the growing security crisis in Afghanistan and the government has issued an advisory for Indians living there.

In response to a question, Arindam Bagchi said that on June 26, the drone was seen near the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan.

He said, "This matter has been officially discussed with the Government of Pakistan and they have been requested to investigate this matter and take care that such cases of security breaches are stopped. " (S Jaishankar did not meet Taliban)

In the media briefing about the drone attacks near the Jammu Air Force Station, he said that the matter is currently under investigation. "India follows a zero-tolerance policy in terms of terrorism and terrorism financing," he said.

Earlier, government sources had denied such reports. "We have claimed in social media reports that the foreign minister has met some Taliban leaders. Such reports are completely false, baseless, and mischievous," a source said on Tuesday.

During the UNSC Debate on UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan last week, Jaishankar called for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire to ensure a reduction in violence in Afghanistan and called for immediate removal of terrorist safe havens and sanctuaries for lasting peace in the war.
