Ground Report | New Delhi: Russia ban Instagram; Russia is tightening its restrictions on social media amid attacks on Ukraine. Now there is a preparation to ban Instagram in Russia. This action is being taken on Instagram for promoting violence against Russian soldiers. In fact, Instagram's parent company Meta has said that it will allow its users to call for violence against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian soldiers in some countries.

This means that in some countries Meta will temporarily allow posts containing violence against Russian soldiers on its platform. However, it also states that posts containing violence against Russian citizens will not be allowed. Now on the change in the policy of Meta, Russia has asked America to stop such activities of the social media company.

“Messages circulating on the Instagram social network encouraging and provoking violent acts against Russians, in connection with which the Russian Prosecutor General's Office demanded that Roskomnadzor restrict access to this social network.

“Since active Instagram users will take time to transfer their photo and video materials to other social networks and notify their contacts and subscribers, Roskomnadzor decided to complete the procedure for imposing access restrictions on Instagram at 00:00 on March 14, providing users with an additional 48 hours of the transition period”.

“The fact is that if we were to apply our standard content policies without any adjustment, we would now be removing content from ordinary Ukrainians expressing their resistance and anger against the invading military forces, which would rightly be considered unacceptable.”

On Friday, the news agency Interfax reported that the Investigative Committee of Russia has asked to start a criminal investigation against Meta on Friday.
