Russia-Ukraine invasion ‘has already begun’

Ground Report | New Delhi: Russia-Ukraine invasion begun; International condemnation after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian Armed Forces to enter the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk on Monday to guarantee, in his own words, the maintenance of peace in both regions.

In Britain, Health Minister Sajid Javid said "the Russians, President Putin, have decided to attack Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," adding that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has already begun. For this reason, he announced that the government of Boris Johnson will impose sanctions on Moscow. 

Meanwhile, several Biden Administration officials reportedly discussed plans with the Ukrainian government for President Volodimir Zelensky to leave Kyiv and move to Lviv, near the Polish border. in the event of a Russian invasion of the country's capital. Two sources who would have spoken with the US network NBC News would have argued that the Biden Administration sees the Ukrainian leader "increasingly vulnerable."

• The Russian invasion of Ukraine has already begun, British health secretary Sajid Javid said after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced he would send troops to two of the country's breakaway regions in the east.

• Putin officially recognized the rebel-held eastern areas of Donetsk and Luhansk on Monday night, escalating the crisis in Ukraine.

• “It is clearly contrary to international law. It is a flagrant violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and integrity, it is a repudiation of the Minsk agreements," Johnson told a news conference, calling it a "bad omen" for the situation in Ukraine.

• Johnson sees “signs that things are moving in the wrong direction in Ukraine” and specified that he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski tonight.

• This morning, the Government of the United Kingdom has assured that "the invasion has already begun", while from Spain, the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has maintained that "hostilities have not begun". 

• President Vladimir Putin launched an effective invasion of eastern Ukrain

• He ordered tanks across the border into the newly-recognised Donetsk and Luhansk regions

• He's claimed his tanks are carrying out "peacekeeping functions"

• But the actions could trigger bloodiest conflict since WW2

• The US, UK and EU have vowed to hit Russia with sanctions today

• Boris Johnson is holding a dawn Cobra meeting to discuss the UK's response

• Robles has once again opted for "diplomatic channels", although she has recognized that "so far Russia's desire for dialogue is not very credible". 

• According to Reuters, a column of military vehicles, including some tanks, were seen last morning in the city of Donetsk, although the agency could not confirm that they were Russian troops. 

• Also last night, the United States and several countries condemned at the UN, where the Security Council met in an emergency, the Russian manoeuvres.
