Russia considering end of Ukraine invasion on May 9th WWII victory day

It comes as fears of World War III were aroused yesterday, following more Russian propaganda claiming there would be “all-out nuclear war” if the West defended Ukraine.

The latest reports suggest that Ukrainian insiders claim that Russia wants to end its war on the very day it celebrates its victory in World War II. This would mean that Russian officials are considering ending their war with Ukraine by May 9, the Mirror reports.

This claim was also supported by the Russian media outlet Pravda News. They quoted a source as saying: “According to available information, there is an ongoing propaganda campaign among the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation that seeks to impose the idea that the war must end on May 9, 2022.”

This is the day the country marks its victory over the Na%is, more than 70 years ago. It would see the end of the conflict in Ukraine as it moves into its second month.

The general staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces told the Kyiv Independent that its intelligence suggested that Russia wanted the war to end on this date. This claim was also supported by the Russian media outlet Pravda News.

They quoted a source as saying: “According to available information, there is an ongoing propaganda campaign among the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation that seeks to impose the idea that the war must end on May 9, 2022.”

“Despite significant losses and demoralized personnel, the military and political authorities of the Russian Federation still do not reject the possibility of continuing the war against Ukraine. Violating the rules of war, the occupying troops are destroying the infrastructure of peaceful cities and towns.

“Most of the medical establishments located on the Russian side of the border with Ukraine, near the border, are occupied by wounded soldiers of the Russian army. Russian troops are also trying to restore the combat capabilities of their airborne troops.”

Victory Day is one of the most important holidays in Russia and sees the closure of various schools and businesses and military parades are held across the country. This year would mark its 77th year since the surrender of the Greater German Reich in 1945.
