RRB NTPC protest: What's the whole matter?

Ground Report | New Delhi: RRB NTPC protest; Angry candidates' agitation over the results of RRB-NTPC has taken a furious form in Gaya on Wednesday. The candidates created a ruckus at Gaya Junction. It is being told that during this angry candidates set fire to the engine of two goods trains and a passenger train. Along with this, the window panes of 20 bogies were shattered.

In order to control the crowd of students, the police have fired about 20 tear gas shells. The number of protesting students is said to be around 10 thousand. In this regard, Gaya Senior SP Aditya Kumar has appealed to the angry students not to be misled by anyone. He said, "Railways has formed a committee, which will investigate. Students should not damage government properties. Some students have been identified and action is on."

RRB NTPC protest

There is a lot of resentment among students due to the alleged discrepancy in the results of the Railway Recruitment Board's Non-Technical Popular Category (RRB-NTPC) exam. They allege that there has been fraud and negligence in these recruitments and efforts are being made to recruit ineligible individuals. These people are angry about the results achieved and the subsequent changes in the rules.

In states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the number of students preparing for railway jobs is in the thousands of rupees. Several months ago, thousands of vacancies were released for different positions in Railways under RRB-NTPC.

On Tuesday there were many reports of heavy demonstrations, train burnings, stone-throwing, damage to government property and clashes with police in various districts including Patna, Bhojpur, Nawada, Sitamarhi, Nalanda and sometimes in Bihar.

There were also reports of rioting by students at Allahabad and Prayagraj stations in Uttar Pradesh. The police also used force to deal with angry students and this effort was heavily criticized by the leader of Congress, Priyanka Gandhi.

Committee formed

According to the PTI news agency, the Railways have suspended the NTPC and Seven One exams after violent protests. Railways also formed a committee to investigate the complaint of the protesting students.

Railways has decided to suspend its NTPC and Level 1 tests following violent protests by job applicants over the selection process for its recruitment exams, a spokesman for the national carrier said on January 26.

It has also formed a committee that will look into complaints from those who have passed the various railway contracting board (RRB) exams and those who have not.

After listening to both sides, the committee will submit a report to the Ministry of Railways, he said. On January 25, the railways issued a general notice, warning job applicants that those found to be involved in vandalism and illegal activities during the protests will not be recruited from the railways. This came a day after protesters occupied railway tracks in various places in Bihar.
