Ground Report | New Delhi: Rocket attack on Afghanistan's capital; The Afghan Interior Ministry says three rockets were fired at the capital shortly before Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's Eid speech. The attack comes as Afghanistan's Muslim religious holiday of Eid al-Adha is being celebrated.

Three rockets were fired around 8 a.m. local time, which were also heard in the green zone. The Green Zone is the area where there are several embassies, including the presidential palace, including the US mission.

"Today, the enemies of Afghanistan have launched rocket attacks in different parts of Kabul," said Mirwais Stanekzai, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry.

"According to initial reports, the three rockets have landed at different places," he said. No casualties were reported and our team is investigating. Minutes after the rocket attacks, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani began addressing the nation. Top officials were also present on the occasion.

Afghan channel Tolo News reported that three rockets landed near the presidential palace during Eid prayers on Tuesday morning when President Ashraf Ghani was present there along with other politicians and senior officials. The rocket landed just as the Eid prayers were about to begin. TOLOnews added that the rockets were fired from the Parwan Se area of ​​Kabul. 

It should be noted that the Afghan presidential palace has been hit by rockets several times before. The latest rocket attack is a response to the ongoing operation against Taliban incursions in various parts of the country. It may be recalled that the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan is continuing which will be completed by August 31.
