Researchers from across the country are in protest mode demanding a revision of the current fellowhip scale which is due to be increased for last four years. The protestors have now decided to take the campaign to the doors of the Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD),where they will agitate on December 20.
The organisation named Voice Of Research Scholar has also issued a letter addressing all the reseachers to send a mail to the ministry and the Secretariat.
Reseachers facing financial problems due to delayed revision of amounts and continuous neglect by the government are forced to take to streets.
The research scholar’s body has also appealed to the members and protesting researchers to carry a signature campaign in their respective institutes, in a bid to bring together all the concerns and put it together in front of the government. The institute has also said that they will march to Ministry of Human Resource Development.
“We want to infom you that we have been meeting ministries, secretariat since for last four months for increase in fellowship ammount. Researchers from various institutes fom across the country havr signed this campaign. We have conveyed our issues through correspondence , mail and social media. But we haven’t recieved any response from the government yet.
On November 20, we talked to Vijay Raghavan, principal secretary scientific advisor for Indian government, regarding this issue but we haven’t got any response. Now we are left with no option. This is our humble request you to drop a mail to ministry and secretariat. we will send common mail and will wait for their reply. We will carry forward our campaign according to govenment’s response,” scholars union said in the letter.
Earlier in 2014, thousands of research fellows protested and forced the government to increase the amount of allowance. This might be the reason why government has not been able to bring up any policy to solve this problem.
These are prominent demands of the researchers:
1. Fellowship amount of JRF, SRF and PhD students must be increased to 60%, as the amount is increased by 15% every year.
2. They should receive this amount in a fixed amount of time.
3. Government should make a guideline under pay commission that will ensure that researchers can get their fellowship amount on time.
