Ground Report | New Delhi: Rules and Regulations for Booster Dose; The Union Ministry of Health issued on Monday the guidelines for the COVID vaccination of a population over 60 years with comorbidities and precautionary doses for health care and frontline workers.
In the guidelines, the ministry stated that the vaccination process would start from January 3, 2022 and that only Covaxin from Bharat Biotech would be the only option. Anyone over the age of 15 can enroll in Co-WIN. Beneficiaries can self-register online using an existing Co-WIN account or by creating a new account using a unique phone number; this service is now available to all eligible residents.

For frontline workers and healthcare workers who have received both doses, another dose of vaccine would be provided starting January 10, 2022. It was stated that the precautionary dose would be based on the completion of nine months, that is say, 39 weeks from the date. of the administration of the second dose.
Meanwhile, all people over 60 years of age with comorbidities who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, on medical advice, will receive an additional dose as of January 10, 2022. When the dose expires, the Co -WIN will send an SMS to said beneficiaries so that they receive the precautionary dose.
Which Covid-19 vaccine will be used as the third dose?
The population eligible for the precautionary dose would be given the third dose of the same vaccine that had been given before. So far, the Center has not given a go-ahead to mix and match vaccines in the third dose.
Registration and Who is Eligible
- Only frontline workers such as doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, hospital staff will receive a booster dose starting January 10, 2022.
- Step 1 - First go to Covin App. Enter your mobile number. OTP will come and throw it away and log in.
- Step 2 - Now choose one of the photo ID proofs - Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card, Passport, Pension Passbook, NPR Smart Card, Voter ID, Unique Disability ID or Ration Card.
- Step 3 - If you are over 60 years, select the registration option.
- Step 4- If you are over 45 years of age and you have some ailments, then select ‘Do you have any co-morbidities option.
- Step 5 - Once registered you will see all your details. You can register their vaccinations by adding other members to your login.
- Step 6 - Once the member is added, enter the PIN code of your nearest Vaccination Center. There will be a list of vaccination centers.
- Step 7 - Now select the date, time and vaccine for vaccination. Go to the center and get vaccinated.
- Step 6 - Download your vaccination certificate after vaccination.
- Step 7 - Similarly, you can add other members to your login and register their vaccinations.

Rules and Regulations for Booster Dose
- All HCWs, PDAs and citizens 60 years of age or older with comorbidities will be able to access the vaccine for the precautionary dose through their existing Co-WIN account.
- The eligibility of such recipients for the precautionary dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose recorded in the Co-WIN system.
- The Co-WIN system will send a text message to those recipients to use the precautionary dose when the dose is due.
- Registration and appointment services can be accessed through online and on-site modes.
- The details of the administration of the precautionary dose will be adequately reflected in the vaccination certificates.
- As a matter of abundant precaution, for those Health Care Workers (HCWs) Front Line Workers (FLWs) who have received two doses, another dose of COVID-19 vaccine would be provided from 10th January 2022.
- The prioritization and sequencing of this precautionary dose would be based on the completion of 9 months, that is, 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.
- All people 60 years of age or older with comorbidities who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will receive, on medical advice, a 4 dose of precaution starting on January 10, 2022.
- The prioritization and sequencing of this precautionary dose would be based on the completion of 9 months, that is, 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.
- All citizens, regardless of income level, are entitled to free COVID-19 vaccination at government vaccination centers.
- Those with the ability to pay are encouraged to use the Vaccination Centers at Private Hospitals.
