Record 5th Time U-19 World Champions India Cements its Dominance

Ground Report | New Delhi: Dinesh Bana hits over Mid-On and the ball sails over the U-19 Indian Cricket Team for a match-winning SIX! Bana ‘finishes off in style’, replicating the famous MS Dhoni six in the final 2011 World Cup. The entire Indian team rushes onto the ground, celebrating the incredible win. In a dominating performance, the U-19 Indian Men’s Cricket Team won their record 5th World Cup title.

The English Team never seemed in command of the game, courtesy to a brilliant opening spell by leg-arm fast Ravi Kumar picking up two-wicket to put the team on the backfoot. Raj Bawa’s five wickets and Ravi Kumar four wickets kept the England batting in check by picking wickets consistently. England lost more than half their squad at the meagre score of 91. England’s James Rew fought like a lone wolf scoring 95 runs. Rew was dismissed through an incredible recovery catch by Kaushal Tambe. James Rew’s 95 helped England to post a respectively total of 189/10.

Indian Vice-Captain, Shaik Rashid’s fifty led India into a comfortable run chase. Once Rashid departed to a poor shot selection, Nishant Sindhu guided India to their fifth title win with a mature, and temperamental fifty. Raj Bawa was named the Man of the Match for his 5/31 with the ball and 35 (from 54b, 2x4, 1x6).

This was India fourth straight final, eighth overall, and fifth World Cup title, making India the most successful team in the U-19 format of International Cricket.

Scorecard: England U19 189/10 (44.5 ov, James Rew 95*, George Thomas 27*)

Twitter is flooded with tweets of overwhelming emotions, and excitement.

Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah congratulates the team on their tremendous win and announces a cash prize of 40 lakh per player and 25 lakh per support staff as a ‘token’ of appreciation.

In the middle of the tournament, the Indian team was hit by COVID-19, but the team didn’t lose hope, and comprehensibly won every game. The former Indian cricketer expresses his delight, congratulating the support staff, and in particular the coach VVS Laxman.

Here is a glimpse of the Indian U-19 Cricket Team. The World Champions!
