Ground Report | New Delhi: Ration scheme; On Tuesday, the Supreme Court said in an important order that the Central Government, in collaboration with NIC, should create a portal i.e. website for the registration of unorganized sector workers and migrant workers. The court said that the central government and the state should complete the registration process of all workers before 31 July 2021.

The Supreme Court said, "States have to implement schemes for distribution of dry ration to migrant workers on or before July 31, 2021. This scheme will continue as long as there is a pandemic." The Supreme Court also said that the 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme will be implemented in all the states.

The court ordered, "The government should register all establishments and contractors under the Inter-State Migrant Workers Act 1979." The Supreme Court in its order said that the state governments should set up community kitchens in those places where the number of workers is more. The court said that the arrangement of food for the workers should be continued after the end of the epidemic.

The panel of judges Ashok Bhushan and M.R. Shah issued a slew of directions to the three workers to provide food security, remittance, and other welfare measures to the Center and states, who are facing calamities due to re-curfew and restrictions for migrant workers in different parts of the country during the second wave of COVID-19.

The Judicial Committee directed the Center to develop a portal with the help of the National Informatics Center (NIC) to register informal workers for the purpose of providing social security benefits by July 31.

He also directed the states, union territories to make arrangements for public kitchens for migrant workers, as long as the pandemic situation persists in the respective states. He asked the Center to continue donating food grains to states, union territories for free distribution to migrant workers till the pandemic subsides.
