Rajdeep Sardesai, senior journalist of India Today, tweeted during the farmer demonstration on 26 January and later deleted. Rajdeep had also spoken on TV about what is written in the tweet. For this, Sardesai has been off-air for two weeks.
Sardesai on January 26, tweeted, "One person, 45-year-old Navneet, was killed allegedly in police firing at ITO. Farmers tell me: the 'sacrifice' will not go in vain," on January 26.

However, as per the later reports senior anchor Rajdeep Sardesai has quit the India Today Channel several hours after being suspended.
As per the report of OpIndia said, “Sources claim that termed his suspension and salary cut a big humiliation for him, and he decided to submit his resignation from India Today”.
Rajdeep himself has submitted his resignation to the group. At the same time, many comrades including his wife Sagarika Ghosh have also come out in support of him.

She wrote "In a fast developing story realities change every hour, the story was changed& corrected within minutes, retraction given. The tragedy is that in going after journalists, we lose sight of the real issues and the dead 24 year old farmer #FarmersProtest. Don’t shoot the messenger!".
Similarly, Nikhil Wagle writes, "No point in watching @IndiaToday for a month when its most credible anchor is off the air. Viewers need break too!. ”
Prashant Bhushan wrote, “India Today fully joins Godi media ranks, shedding all pretence: Takes Anchor Rajdeep Sardesai Off Air, Cuts Month's Salary for Retracted Tweet. If they followed this policy consistently, they would have to sack most of their anchors. ”
Former MP Shahid Siddiqui writes, "India Today / Aaj Tak can run its own channel for free if you deduct the same salary on wrong news and false news. Enjoy for free. "

Alt News founder Prateek Sinha writes, "India Today group can save a lot on its salary bill if they become consistent in implementing their policy of penalising news anchors/reporters for misinformation."
However Noida Police of Uttar Pradesh has registered a case of sedition against several senior journalists, including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, for spreading violence on Republic Day.
The journalists on whom the FIR has been lodged include India Today’s news anchor Rajdeep Sardesai, National Herald Group’s senior editorial advisor Mrinal Pandey, Qaumi Awaaz newspaper’s chief editor Zafar Aga, Caravan magazine’s chief editor Pareshnath, Karwa magazine’s editor Annanath, Caravan magazine executive editor Vinod K. Jose and an unknown man.
