Ground Report | New Delhi: Raj Kundra: From IPL betting; The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police has arrested Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra for making porn films and releasing them on the app. Raj Kundra has a long history of controversies. From betting to cheating in IPL, his name has come up in many cases.

Raj Kundra: From IPL betting to porn films

Raj Kundra is a British-Indian businessman, although he is Indian by origin but he has got UK citizenship. Raj grew up in London, UK and was interested in business from an early age.

When Raj was 18 years old, he moved to Dubai and later to Nepal to start his own business of pashmina shawls. He started his business by selling traditional shawls to big fashion houses in Britain, and this is how his business reached the heights. In 2009, Raj Kundra moved back to Dubai and set up a construction company there, as well as investing in the production of Bollywood films.

In the year 2012, Raj Kundra was also accused in the IPL spot-fixing case and he was also arrested.

Raj had a stake in the IPL team Rajasthan Royals. Apart from Kundra, the police had also arrested many players in the spot-fixing case.

In 2015, on January 22, the then BCCI President N Srinivasan’s son-in-law and team principal of Chennai Super Kings Gurunath Meiyapan and Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj were accused of spot-fixing and providing match-related information in the Supreme Court.

Following the Mudgal Committee report, the Supreme Court panel had recommended a two-year ban on Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, giving an important decision. Meanwhile, Meiyappan and Raj Kundra were banned for life.
