The new Indian institution that has entered the list of top 1000 universities this year is Jawaharlal Nehru University, which has been ranked in the 561-570 ranking band.

Ground Report | New Delhi: Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is the world's top research university while Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is ranked 41 in this category. Overall, three Indian institutions have made it to the top 200 universities in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings released on Wednesday.

The Indian Institute of Science got 100 out of 100 in an analysis by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). According to the 18th edition of the rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has been ranked India's top institute for the fourth consecutive year in the QS World University Rankings 2022. However, compared to the 2021 ranking, it has slipped four places to 177th.

IIT Delhi is the second best university in India and has come up at 185 this time instead of 193 last year. This is due to the rise in the ranking of IIS. IIS is at number 186. IIT Madras has jumped 20 places among the top 400 universities in the world for the first time and is now ranked 255, its highest ranking since 2017. IIT Kharagpur is at 280 while IIT Guwahati is jointly ranked 395.

IIT, Hyderabad has made it to the top 600 for the first time in the 591-600 rank category while Jawaharlal Nehru University has made it to the QS World University Rankings for the first time and is in the 561-570 category. No Indian university has made it to the top 250 in the faculty/student ratio category. This year's ranking of the world's top 1,300 universities has been done, which is 145 more than last time.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has maintained its dominance by coming at number one for the 10th year in a row. The University of Oxford has come in second for the first time since 2006, while Stanford University and the University of Cambridge are jointly ranked third.

The University of Delhi (DU) has been ranked in the 501 – 510 ranking band in the World University Rankings 2022. On the other hand, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and Amrita Vishwavidyalaya Pitham did not find a place in the top 1000 in this year's rankings. The ranking of these three institutions has slipped from the 801-1000 band to the 1001-1200 band.
