Punjab Police SI Exam Cancelled, new schedule to be announced soon

Punjab Police SI Exam : Following the directives of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa to safeguard the integrity and fairness of the examination process for recruitment, the Punjab Police has cancelled the Sub-Inspector (SI) exam for 560 positions.

The common computer-based tests to recruit SIs in four cadre and wings (investigation, district, armed police and intelligence) of the Punjab Police were held from August 17 to 24 at different centres in the state.

“On the directions of CM @CharanjitChanni and Deputy CM @Sukhjinder_INC  to maintain the integrity and fairness of the examination process for recruitment, @PunjabPoliceInd  has scrapped the examinations conducted to fill 560 posts of Sub-Inspectors,” the Chief Minister’s Office tweeted on Sunday.

The move came a day after Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia demanded a CBI probe into the alleged Punjab Police recruitment scam and said that fraudulent methods were used in the test held for the recruitment of sub inspectors.

A report in this regard was received by the DGP’s office on September 27 and the DGP on October 2 gave approval to the board recommendations. According to an official release, Punjab Police have already filed three FIRs based on charges of cheating and malpractices in the SAS Nagar, Patiala, and Khanna districts.

“The SIT has already begun a probe into the aforementioned crimes and has so far arrested 20 defendants in three FIRs,” the statement continues. A Special Inquiry Team (SIT) led by ADGP Parmod Ban, ADGP Special Crimes and Economic Offenses Wing Punjab, has been formed to conduct a fair and prompt investigation into the cases filed.

Earlier, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sept 4 directed the DGP to intensify the crackdown on leakage of exam papers, cheating, copying etc., after six persons were reportedly arrested for their suspected involvement in cheating during the Written Test held for Sub-Inspectors on August 22

The spokesperson on Sunday said that dates for fresh examination for the recruitment of Sub inspectors will be notified soon.
