Tributes poured in from across the country for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on the first anniversary of the deadly Pulwama terror attack on Friday.

Taking to Twitter Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Tributes to the brave martyrs who lost their lives in the gruesome Pulwama attack last year. They were exceptional individuals who devoted their lives to serving and protecting our nation. India will never forget their martyrdom.”

The government is set to inaugurate a memorial for the 40 CRPF personnel at the Lethpora camp with names along with their pictures and the motto of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) — ‘Seva and Nishtha’ (Service and Loyalty). "It definitely was an unfortunate incident and we have learned our lessons now. We were always extra alert during our movement but now an extra layer of alertness has been added to it," Additional Director General of CRPF Zulfiquar Hasaan told Ground Report.

The Pulwama terror attack was orchestrated by the Jaish-e-Mohammad on February 14 last year when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a CRPF convoy on the Jammu National Highway killing 40 CRPF personnel in one of the deadliest attack of the decade on the security forces in the valley.

Meanwhile, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi paying his tributes raised questions on the inquiries following the attack and said, “Today as we remember our 40 CRPF martyrs in the #PulwamaAttack , let us ask: Who benefitted the most from the attack? What is the outcome of the inquiry into the attack? Who in the BJP Govt has yet been held accountable for the security lapses that allowed the attack?”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Remembering the fallen @crpfindia personnel who were martyred during the dastardly attack in Pulwama(J&K) on this day in 2019. India will never forget their sacrifice. The entire nation stands united against terrorism and we are committed to continue our fight against this menace.”

Paying tributes Home Minister Amit Shah said, “India will forever be grateful of our bravehearts and their families. I pay homage to the martyrs of Pulwama attack. India will forever be grateful for our bravehearts and their families who made supreme sacrifice for the sovereignty and integrity of our motherland.”

Days after the ghastly attack, India had retaliated with a coordinated airstrike in Balakot inside Pakistan with the Indian Air Force dropping heavy ammunition on terror launch pads in the area leading to India and Pakistan on the brink of a full-blown war.
