PSL 2021 postponed after more players test positive for Covid-19

The PSL cricket tournament in Pakistan has been postponed. The decision was made after six players participating in the tournament were diagnosed with the covid-19.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League have been postponed due to confirmation of corona virus in six players participating in the tournament.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the decision was taken after consultation with the owners of the six teams participating in the tournament.

Elaborating further, the PCB said that as a matter of urgency, the first step is to ensure the health and safety of all the participants of the tournament. In addition, code testing will be enhanced and isolation will be facilitated.

It was informed on Thursday that after the identification of Kod Anis in three players of two more teams, the number of players and personnel participating in PSL has increased to seven.

Two foreign players from Islamabad United, including league spinner Fawad Ahmed and an unknown player, as well as a member of the support staff, are already in quarantine after being diagnosed with corona.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan told a press conference on Thursday that his priority at the moment was to protect international players and return them safely to their home countries.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive Wasim Khan also said that he would try to complete the remaining matches of PSL 6 before the end of this year.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Thursday morning that the corona test report of three more players in the two teams of the ongoing Pakistan Super League-6 has come positive. According to officials, the three players will now be in isolation for 10 days. 

However, the names of the affected players and teams have not been disclosed by the PCB. According to a press release issued by the PCB, the three players did not participate in the double header matches of PSL 6 on Wednesday. All three players underwent corona tests yesterday afternoon after showing symptoms.

Earlier, it was confirmed that four people, including Islamabad United's league sniper Fawad Ahmed, had tested positive for corona in the Pakistan Super League.

So far, a total of seven corona tests have come positive in PSL 6, including five players.
