Provocative slogans raised against Muslims at event in Jantar Mantar

Ground Report | New Delhi: Provocative slogans raised; Anti-Muslim slogans were allegedly raised during a march in the country "against colonial-era laws" at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, just a few meters from the Indian Parliament, on Sunday. Delhi Police has told that the organizers were not given permission to organize the event.

According to the report of 'The Indian Express'late Sunday evening, the police did not take any action in this matter. The rally was organized by a Supreme Court lawyer and former Delhi Pradesh BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay, which more than 100 people attended.

In the video going viral on social media, people are raising slogans and threatening to harm Muslims. The paper tried to contact Ashwini Upadhyay about this march named 'Bharat Jodo Andolan', but the paper did not get any response from his side.

He had filed a PIL against the Indian Penal Code in the Supreme Court last month, seeking a "comprehensive" and "rigorous" penal code that would ensure the rule of law in the country.

Provocative slogans raised against Muslims

Shipra Srivastava, media in charge of the Bharat Jodo Andolan, said, "It was a demonstration against the colonial laws that were made by the British government to suppress Indians. We were there protesting against those laws and in support of uniforms. Citizens Code. Because our demand was that there should be one rule in the country."

"To my knowledge, there were no such (provocative) slogans. There were 5,000 people and if 5-6 of them raised such slogans in some corner, we would have distanced themselves from them," he said.

When the newspaper asked a senior police officer from the New Delhi district about this, he said, "We have refused permission because of DDMA guidelines (which do not allow gathering during the COVID protocol). And later we came to know that Ashwini Upadhyay wants to do this program indoors.

Police arrangements were made at that place as we thought that around 50 people would come there but suddenly people started gathering in small groups there. They were protesting peacefully, but when they started leaving, they started raising slogans."

When DCP (New Delhi district) Deepak Yadav was asked about the video containing the purported slogan, he said, "We are verifying all the video clips." However, he did not comment on such a huge gathering at Jantar Mantar.

Last month, after much discussion and meetings at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police allowed 200 farmers to protest. The special permission for the protest was given by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi who is also the chairman of DDMA.
