Auto rickshaws charge 100 RS for 3 KM, people suffer in Srinagar

Public transport system remains off the road since 5 August, when BJP led government scrapped article 370 and article 35A besides divided the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two union Territories (UT) one is Ladkah and Jammu and Kashmir. 

Public transport remains off the roads for the consecutive 44th day across the valley but in some areas of Srinagar city Auto rickshaw drivers are having turf day. Well these Auto rickshaw walas charging customers at will price. 

As all the transport remains off the road in Kashmir valley since 5 August there are some reports that Auto drivers conning customers in Valley. There is no set fare, no regulatory mechanism. 

A local from Srinagar Jawahar Nagar said “these Auto Rickshaws drivers charging 70 to 100 Rs for 3 KM during this hard time”.

Groundreport.in visit different areas of Srinagar city where these Auto rickshaws drives charge 50 RS per KM, we asked one of the Auto Wala what makes you to overcharge customers? He replied “we don’t, we used to charge the same rate in normal days. 

So far Auto rickshaws have not returned to roads in Valley, these Auto Rickshaws seen in uptown areas like, Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar, Sanat Nagar. 

In Rajbagh one of the Auto Rickshaw driver said that I will charge you 300 Rs to Soura which is just 12 KM from Rajbagh, Most of the Auto rickshaws refused to go Soura after the Abrogation of Article 370 and 35A Soura remains volatile.

Abdul Rashid A Local from Sonwar he said “on 13 August one of the Auto Rickshaw Wala charge me 500 RS from Sonwar to Airport Road which is just 8 KM away from Sonwar, at this hard time these auto Rickshaws should help people either to loot them”.   

Since 5 August transport remains off the roads, phone service as well as internet services was also suspended in Kashmir, when BJP led government scrapped article 370 and article 35A besides divided the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two union Territories (UT) one is Ladkah and Jammu and Kashmir.

Uncertainty in Kashmir is looming large due to abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.  

All shops, business establishments, fuel refilling stations, schools are shut as Kashmir Valley is on edge since 5 August 2019. 

Communication blockage persisted for the consecutive 41th day across the valley, reports of shutdown also purred from other parts of Kashmir valley even mainstream parties like national conference and people Democratic Party with former chief minister Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti under detention. 

Many other political leaders and businessmen, lawyers, activists and other have also been confined to centaur hotel in Dal Lake. 

However Ministry of Home affairs in a statement said that the situation in Kashmir valley is returning to normalcy with easy of restrictions.

Meanwhile Yesterday Director general of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said that we are very close to normally. If you take the entire region all the district of Jammu are normal and school and other business establishment are open now in all the 10 districts of Jammu.

DGP also admitted that 184 law and order incidents were reported from different parts of Kashmir valley through which heavy violence was only reported in six cases after Union government scrapped article 370 and article 35A besides divided the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two unions Territories (UT) one is Ladkah and Jammu and Kashmir.
