Several villages here in Central Kashmir's Budgam district are reeling under complete darkness for more than a week.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), residents of Kanidajan, Bonyar, and Sursayar alleged that they get power supply for merely 10 minutes and said that since snowfall they are reeling under complete darkness as power supply goes off and remains unrestored for days and hours together.

Similarly, The residents of Kumar Mohalla in Arigam village of Tral hamlet in Pulwama district are up in arms against Power Development Department (PDD) as they have alleged that authorities aren't installing 63 KVA transformers in the area which is lying there since the last 20 days.

Locals told that Kumar Mohalla which consists of around 30 households is reeling under darkness as their line gets damaged every day.

They said that a new transformer was approved way before for the village and after hectic efforts it was brought to village around 20 days before but due to unknown reasons it is not being installed.

Why Power cut is Big problem in Kashmir?

Kashmir people face frequent power cuts in winter due to heavy snowfall. Power department show laziness in restoring power lines. This cause a power cut for days.

The 7.5 Megawatt power project constructed in nearby Branwar village many years back by a private company from Chandigrah has not been able to mitigate power crisis in the villages of Susaryar block and local villages continue to suffer.

"In absence of power supply, people are facing the biggest inconvenience. We pay more than Rs 500 fee per month towards Power Development Department (PDD) but we don't even use the energy for Rs 100,” said a resident of Kanidajan, Chararisharief.

Ishfaq Ahmad, a local resident, said that “you won't find a day when our lines don't get damaged due to which power supply remains disconnected for hours.”

He said that many domestic animals have died in the area in the recent past after touching the live wire after it fell down.

Locals said that “they have brought issues of dangling wires and other issues in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.”
