Ground Report | New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the mainstream leaders of Jammu and Kashmir in Delhi on June 24. This is the first such meeting between the leaders of the Center and Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories in 2019. 

The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister's residence at 3 pm. Regarding the meeting, Gupkar Manifesto Alliance (PAGD) spokesperson and CPM leader Yusuf Tarigami said, "We have not been given any agenda. We will attend the meeting to know what the Center is offering." Tarigami is among the 14 leaders who have been invited to the meeting called by the Prime Minister.

The communist leader said that the PAGD "will be there to protect the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir". The PAGD includes National Conference, PDP, CPM, Awami National Conference, CPI, and Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement. Recently, National Conference Kashmir's provincial president Nasser Aslam Wani said it is "good" to change from defaming mainstream parties in Jammu and Kashmir to inviting them for talks. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently said that in the meeting with the PM, "the highest demand will be for statehood (statehood for Jammu and Kashmir).'

The leaders who were invited for the meeting included four former chief ministers - National Conference's Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.Four former deputy chief ministers of the then state - Congress leader Tara Chand, People's Conference leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig and BJP leaders Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta were also invited to the meeting.

Besides this, CPM leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, J&K Apni Party (JKAP) chief Altaf Bukhari, People's Conference's Sajjad Lone, J&K Congress chief GA Mir, BJP's Ravindra Raina, and Panthers Party leader Bhim Singh were also present for the meeting. invited to.
