PM Modi and President Kovind pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a priest of truth and non-violence, has played an important role in the freedom of the country. Before independence, British also considered him Mahatma. Whereas, after independence, Gandhigiri is being taught all over the world. Many prominent personalities, including former South African President Nelson Mandela, tried to follow in his footsteps. Bapu, Mahatma, Father of the Nation is called by many names in the country.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October, 1869 AD in the city of Porbandar in Gujarat. His father's name was Karamchand Gandhi, who was then the Diwan of Rajkot. While his mother's name was Putlibai. It is a big coincidence that Gandhiji was born on Friday and the country got independence on Friday itself. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated worldwide on 2 October every year. Also, International Anhisa Day is also celebrated on this day.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday urged the country to “rededicate” itself to the welfare and progress of the nation and follow the path of truth and non-violence. He also urged citizens to contribute to realising Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of building a “clean, capable, strong and prosperous India”.
