Ground Report | New Delhi: People of J&K are being humiliated; The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking restoration of Article 370, 35A and full statehood to Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. The group also said that the people of the Union Territory were being humiliated and thus it should be stopped as its consequences could be dangerous for the entire country.

Restoration of special status

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, PAGD spokesperson and CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami said that seeking restoration of special status, which was revoked by the Center on August 5, 2019, is a constitutional right of the people of the erstwhile state.

"We are demanding nothing but restoration of special constitutional status in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh by August 4, 2019. It is our constitutional right," he said. Tarigami, who was accompanied by Abdullah and other coalition leaders including PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, said some people were interpreting their demands in some other way and calling them "anti-national activities".

“They try to harass the leaders associated with the alliance and continue the campaign of defamation. Perhaps, it has not happened before that people's voice is being blocked in this way. It is impossible to stop the voice of the people,” he said.

The coalition spokesperson said silence in Jammu and Kashmir is considered normal. He claimed, “Even today, they think that Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh should remain silent like a graveyard, and it is not acceptable to the present government and leadership that anyone raises their voice or keep their head held high.”

He said, 'The voice of the people is being suppressed. Never seen this. But, cannot last for long,” he said, calling the silence in J&K normal. Stating that the way Jammu and Kashmir is being humiliated, it seems that only thieves are present here, he said, "We have taken up this issue with the people of India, civil society, media houses and the Parliament of India." has decided. The humiliation must be stopped as its consequences can be dangerous not only in J&K but across the country.

False claims

He said that the promises and claims of the government regarding development, employment, and other things have been exposed before the government as everyone knows what has been done and what has not been done, adding that false claims and promises have no result.

Tarigami claimed a campaign was underway to humiliate the political leadership and activists "as if there were only thieves here". “This disgrace must be stopped and we will place our case before the people of India, its civil society, media houses and Parliament. We appeal to them that this humiliation must stop or its consequences can be dangerous not only for J&K but for the entire country.

He also said that all Chief Administrative Officers whether in civil administration or police were from outside and local people were being sidelined.

He further said that there has been an influx of people in jails and "we want to ask the government how many people have been released after the all-party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
