‘Peace’ in Punjab Congress
According to media reports, Navjot Sidhu touched the feet of Captain Amarinder Singh as soon as they met him. At the same time, Congress General Secretary Harish Rawat, who suggested the formula to end the Punjab dispute, was also present on this occasion.
For some time, Sidhu was criticizing the work of the CM of his government. It is also believed that the Captain was not in favor of Sidhu being included in the Congress just before the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections. This became a little more clear when Sidhu publicly said in November 2018 “My captain is Rahul Gandhi, who is also his (Amarinder) captain”.
At the same time, in 2019, the power ministry was caught snatching his ministry from Sidhu. Later Sidhu resigned from the cabinet.
More recently, on July 17, Captain Amarinder Singh gave a clear indication to the party high command in front of Congress General Secretary and Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat that Sidhu has “questioned the functioning of Punjab Congress and his government by making derogatory tweets”. The Captain has refused to meet Sidhu until he publicly apologizes. But as of now, nothing has come to the fore regarding apologizing.
After about 6 months, the assembly elections are to be held in the state. In such a situation, due to the coming together of both, at present, the tension in the Congress seems to be decreasing.
